The “road of merchants”, Carpets of Stone is a sequence of textures, imaginary stone carpets from ancient Middle Eastern towns.
A PLEASANT, QUICK STOP HAS BEEN CREATED ALONG THIS SENSORY “JOURNEY”. JUST RELAX
A flowing parterre becomes a wide Triclinium. Narcissus’s mirror is a perfect moment for ablutions, refractions and reflections. This installation features a minimally designed parterre, coinciding with a rhythmic sequence of thin strips of Zebra Grey stone. The interval between these strips is bridged by fine black quartz grits, similar to lava sand. The expansion of materials and objects aims to represent the slow flow of things.

Just as woven rugs were laid on the ground along the streets and markets of ancient cities in the Middle East at regular intervals to be washed and cleaned by the feet of passers-by, so the stone pavings collected in the theme exhibition in The Italian Stone Theatre at Marmomac will be laid along a walk-over route leading into a solid stone space rich in textures, design and colours that only natural stone can achieve. The exhibition looks like a collage of stone carpets along a course crossing the hall longitudinally, separating the various shows and obliging visitors to walk over a stone patchwork. Each piece differs from all the others as the outcome of a personal project conceived by international designers invited to collaborate with Italian companies in this sector. Design creativity and the precision and quality of execution by these companies highlight the infinite possibilities for interpretation, texture and colours offered by stone materials.
