The Italian Stone Theatre

The Italian Stone Theatre

CATEGORY: CARPETS OF STONE
PROJECT: BOTTICINO

Botticino is a conceptual installation that tells the story of marble, from the final shape created by man to the actual form found in nature. Starting in workshops, with processes dedicated to specific inhabited areas, this material is progressively transformed from simple flat slabs into small three-dimensional modules, some of which are designed to receive small plants.

FUNCTIONAL AND PRACTICAL, THESE ELEMENTS ARE ACTUAL POTS THAT TELL THE STORY OF A LAND AND ITS SPONTANEOUS COMPLEXITY

This natural, backward path begins with the processing of 20×20 marble-chip floor tiles in their most elaborate form (ground and polished), then moves back to simple polishing, and finally returns to the original appearance (wire saw) found in quarry blocks.

Just as woven rugs were laid on the ground along the streets and markets of ancient cities in the Middle East at regular intervals to be washed and cleaned by the feet of passers-by, so the stone pavings collected in the theme exhibition in The Italian Stone Theatre at Marmomac will be laid along a walk-over route leading into a solid stone space rich in textures, design and colours that only natural stone can achieve. The exhibition looks like a collage of stone carpets along a course crossing the hall longitudinally, separating the various shows and obliging visitors to walk over a stone patchwork. Each piece differs from all the others as the outcome of a personal project conceived by international designers invited to collaborate with Italian companies in this sector. Design creativity and the precision and quality of execution by these companies highlight the infinite possibilities for interpretation, texture and colours offered by stone materials.
