The Italian Stone Theatre is an entire hall (3400 m2), inaugurated at Marmomac in 2015 dedicated to design with natural stone set up to give voice to the sector through culture, design and architecture, which in turn become a driving force promoting business and the expression of one of Made in Italy's areas of excellence worldwide.

MEETING PLACE

DESIGN ORIENTED

The interplay thereby stimulated between industrial natural stone production and the creativity of design and art seeks to develop effective cultural-production combinations hallmarked by experimentation and design-oriented concepts. The aim is also to find new interpretations of this noble, ancient and ductile material in response to the varied needs of the modern world, where new images and new narratives are vital in order to strengthen brands facing stiff competition on global markets.
In this context, Marmomac has unquestionably strengthened its role of leadership among sector events to become the essential meeting place for stone culture: a venue for promoting and analysing training experiences, architecture awards, design experiments and construction techniques, as well as communication and debate through lectures, conferences and seminars focusing on the content and issues inherent in design with natural stone materials.

In this setting, Italian companies are invited to collaborate with internationally renowned architects and designers to create new projects, highlighting excellence in stone through works and installations inspired by a theme identified every year by the curators, Raffaello Galiotto and Vincenzo Pavan. The Hall is divided into several areas, each of which hosts an exhibition: one focuses on architecture, another on design, another still on art and the last on objects associated with leading furniture brands. These are joined by two convivial areas – namely the Wine Bar and the Ristorante d’Autore. These venues are also set up in accordance with the selected theme. Lastly, there is the Forum Area where lectures, workshops and conferences are held in alternation.

Every year, the implementation of The Italian Stone Theatre involves around fifty Italian natural stone processing, machinery and technology companies. They team up with designers and architects to create prototypes, objects or installations intended specifically for this event.

In 2018 the theme was Stone and water, where the fluidity of water confronted the solidity of stone. In 2019, the theme was Naturality, that is the naturalness of stone in its purest aspect, its hallmarks of uniqueness and geo-diversity, as a fundamental element in nature that has evolved and transformed over the centuries. In 2020, the theme will be Time in Stone; the intention is to analyse the contrast between time and its immaterial aspects interpreted through stone that, on the contrary, is pure material.

AWARDS 2020

BEST COMMUNICATOR AWARD

The Best Communicator Award made its debut at Marmomac in 2007 and is open to all exhibitors attending the event. This award aims to promote the exhibit set-ups of companies attending the event by assessing not only displays of products and materials but above all the function of stands as a communication and image tool. A jury of experts from the world of architecture, design and communication is appointed at each edition of Marmomac with the task of selecting the most deserving and original stands. The award is divided into four categories reflecting the various product categories on show at the trade fair: Stone, Design, Machinery and Tools. In addition, one Italian and one international exhibitor take awards in each category.

All exhibiting companies are invited to send their self-candidacy for the Best Communicator Award before the event itself starts. The selection process then involves two stages: the jury develops an initial assessment based on the documentation received and then visits the show halls during Marmomac itself to define a short-list of three finalists in each category. The winners are announced during a specific ceremony and are then involved in Italian and international media communication activities. There follows the list of winners of the four previous editions.
