IMPLUVIUM

Warm marble that lights up, takes shape and becomes the Impluvium. The circular structure rises in height and welcomes guests on its generous seat amidst lights and shadows. The skillfully crafted marble slabs serve as slender and tenacious backrests, rising to support an amber-colored sky.

Da qui un grande soffione libera From here, a large showerhead releases water sprays to the ground, onto the marble floor that surrounds the Impluvium like a carpet. The space between one slab and another allows the water to blend with the air. Brass accessories make every element of the structure interactive, from sound diffusers to controls for the showerhead embedded in the circular seat. A harmonious system of small lights gently illuminates the wet stone. The function of this structure echoes the Roman Impluvium, which we revived in the most scenic SPAs in Italy in the early ’90s.

The Roman Impluvium allowed the entry of sunlight, which indirectly illuminated the adjacent rooms since the atrium lacked regular windows. It also facilitated both ventilation of the premises and the collection of rainwater, which was channeled into an underlying tank. Here, the collection surface is a clear marble lake that extends beyond the structure and ends at its borders with a slightly rounded bevel.
